The loss of biodiversity is amongst the most substantial consequences of an increasing urban environment and it is of vital importance that all new developments undergo a vigorous ecological impact assessment in order to ensure that the impact to the surrounding wildlife and habitats are kept to a minimum.

XCO2 are able to provide a Preliminary Ecological Appraisal for the purpose of either early stage guidance or planning submissions and consequently outline any recommendations for enhancing the biodiversity of the project.

Our approach consists of a comprehensive desk study which would include a data search from the local records centre followed by a Phase 1 habitat survey based on the method recommended by the JNCC (2010) following the CIEEM guidelines, also identifying the likelihood for bird and bat presence onsite thus informing any further surveys which may be required.
