Dalston Works is a mixed-use development located in the London Borough of Hackney. The Regal Homes development offers 121 high quality residences, including a mixture of private sales, shared ownership and social rent properties. Five ground floor commercial units will provide employment and community amenities in the local area, surrounded by attractively landscaped amenity spaces for residents. The development was shortlisted for the Housing and Ashden Prizes, awarded to projects with the most efficient use of energy, in the New London Awards 2017.

A unique architectural structure due to its innovative large-scale use of cross-laminated timber, Dalston Works boasted the title of largest CLT structure by volume in Europe.

An extensive collaboration process was used throughout the design of the structure to ensure that all CLT, which was pre-fabricated off site, included all services penetrations. This allowed for a faster and more efficient construction process.

The Environmental team provided pre-planning services, including energy calculations for Building Regulations compliance as well as Code for Sustainable Homes and BREEAM assessments. Ambitious engineering and environmental targets have been central components of this particular project, and consequently the team at XCO2 are thrilled to have been involved in this innovative development.
