SUSTAINABILITY CONSULTANT INTERNSHIP / GRADUATE (LONDON)
ROLE SUMMARY
- Position: Sustainability consultant internship with opportunity for a full-time graduate role offered at internship completion (performance pending)
- Duration: Minimum 3 months up to a permanent role
- Frequency: Full time (flexible, can be part time if desired)
- Remuneration: London Living Wage hourly rate

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
Recently completed or working towards a Master’s in environmental design, sustainability or similar.
The candidate must demonstrate a keen interest in low carbon design and take an active interest in the industry. The individual must also fulfil the following criteria:
- Excellent communication skills and capable of presenting ideas clearly
- Highly motivated, enthusiastic and ambitious
- Demonstrate knowledge of the relevant industry standards and building regulations
Industry experience is not a requirement but will be considered a benefit, alongside knowledge of the following software: SketchUp, AutoDesk, PHPP, IES VE, Parametric Software (e.g. Rhino, Grasshopper, Ladybug), MS Office.

INTERMEDIATE MECHANICAL ENGINEER (LONDON)
THE ROLE
We are looking for an Intermediate Mechanical Building Services Engineer to join our growing team of engineers and environmental design consultants. The position will work on the mechanical design of multiple XCO2 projects which include multi-residential, commercial and community projects in the UK and low carbon hotels and resorts across the globe.
An Intermediate Mechanical Engineer at XCO2 should have a track record in taking projects through from inception to completion. They must have demonstrated technical competence in mechanical design including HVAC, low carbon systems and public health and maintain a general understanding of all disciplines of building services including, but not limited to, Electrical Systems, BMS and BEMS.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate from experience, participation through each design stage of a project
- Ability to work without ongoing supervision
- Satisfactory preparation of tasks in support of large projects for the Senior engineers
- Ability to manage medium sized projects from inception to completion
- Capable, through experience, of managing a number of tasks on multiple projects at a time
- Demonstrate ability to successfully represent the company in front of clients and design teams
- Show knowledge and interest in low carbon design and innovation
- Demonstrate ability to mentor, nurture and lead graduate and junior members of the team
- Have a willingness to follow the lead and cooperate in support of senior engineer’s projects
- Demonstrate efficiency in your work and output
- Deliver work in good time for review by your line manager and/or peers
- Assign tasks to junior/graduate engineers and take the time to teach them through their tasks and through company procedures
- Maintain high technical and quality standards
- Plan your time in advance for given weekly tasks and long-term duties on your projects
- Ensuring your work is in accordance with the brief provided by your line manager
- Maintain good technical knowledge of the industry and relevant building services design and industry standards
Activities
- Preparation of work plans for your tasks
- Preparation of calculations, design reports, schematics and layout drawings
- Collation of design packs for medium sized projects
- Tracking of project work conducted by junior and graduate members who are supporting your work
- Ensure delivery of work on a weekly basis as planned
- Attend weekly team meetings
Useful Additional Attributes
- Industry presence
- Overview knowledge of building services outside of your discipline
- Past experience of computational modelling of buildings
Qualifications
- Minimum of BEng, BSc in Mechanical Engineering discipline or equivalent
- Minimum of 2-3 years professional experience as a design engineer
- Ideally minimum of ACIBSE status with demonstration of activity to become Chartered
