Situated adjacent to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the Carpenters Estate was built in the 1970s with 710 homes, including three high-rise blocks. The masterplan for the 9.3ha public housing neighbourhood, which has been the subject of redevelopment proposals for close to two decades, aims to provide approximately 2,500 new homes across fifteen plots as well as new infrastructure to support the additional homes. 50% of the new homes will be affordable.
XCO2 have been appointed by Populo Living, who are collaborating with Newham Council for the scheme, to provide M&E and environmental services at a masterplan level. The XCO2 team will also be providing these services at a project level for various phases of the scheme, including Phase 1A, the refurbishment of the James Riley Point residential tower, which will deliver 132 new social rent homes, a new community centre with sports facilities and MUGA, and a new after-school centre and café to replace the existing Carpenters and Dockland Community Centre, by 2023.
