The Guest Artist Space (G.A.S.) Foundation is a non-profit founded by British-Nigerian artist, Yinka Shonibare CBE RA, dedicated to facilitating international artistic exchange through residencies, public programmes and exhibition opportunities. The Foundation recently opened a new multi-faceted creative space in Lagos, Nigeria.

G.A.S. Lagos is located within the suburb of Lekki in Shonibare’s hometown of Lagos, encompassing a private home, studios and gallery. The building was inspired by Brutalist and traditional Yoruba architectural principles, designed by Elsie Owusu OBE.

XCO2 worked closely with the design team to ensure that the project was designed to be environmentally sustainable within the tropical climate of the region. The sustainable features utilised include off-grid and solar power, biodigesters and rainwater recycling.
